Yesterday I had my second surgical follow up appointment. All went well and I finally understand the follow up schedule post-cancer. I vaguely remember the doctor talking about it at the first follow up appointment, but I think it went in one ear and right out the other one. Peter was there to pick up on what I didn’t catch, which was most of everything, and he couldn’t remember either.
I’ve always understood there were additional doctor appointments after your initial diagnosis, but I thought once you were cancer-free they were done. Well, I have 5 years of follow up to go, no, 4 years and 10 months.
Even though I feel great, I’m out riding my bike and going to yoga (gentle for awhile), I’m still very much in the healing processes. Will be for another 2-3 months. I’ve been cleared to start, slowly, with some abdominal exercises, but if there is any discomfort, I’ll stop.
I think one of the lessons I’ll take with me from this experience – be gentle with your body and, more importantly for me, be gentle with your mind.
