So I had a weird revelation earlier this week. I was vacuuming (just a little) and I thought, ‘I feel stronger’. Hmmmm, who would have thought of basic housework as being a gauge of getting stronger? Can’t count myself in that category, but having experienced it, I can certainly say it makes total sense.
I can’t drive (drugs), I can’t lift over 15 lbs, I can’t ride my bike for 6 weeks (bye, bye coping mechanism), I have limited strength and endurance, so what do you do all day long? Okay, I can walk, but that’s hard to fill a whole day with just walking, particularly for someone who is used to getting lots done. I’ve described myself to others who ask me how I do I do it all as ‘I go 60mph or 0mph. No 45mph.’
Well, I have met my match with this surgery. I have limited endurance, little strength, sleep more than I’m awake and I don’t stay up much past 8:30p. Sounds sad I’m sure as a reader, but have to say, I’m just fine. And the housework as minimal as it is has become a gauge for how I’m healing.
Very slowly.
