Yesterday I celebrated a close friend’s 61st birthday with her daughter by climbing a good size hill. She is a wonderful friend and a fun riding partner. We had sun and a cool breeze or wind depending on where we were riding. Hills are great when the wind is unruly because often the trees and hillside will block the larger gusts. Just a tip I’ve learned over the years. There are no hills in Wyoming. Mountains yes, hills no.
On the decent my brakes decided to start whining. Not a good feeling when you’re dropping down some significant grades on a tight winding road. Traffic is always a concern, but there are horse trails that cross at various points too. A couple years ago I bought myself a wonderful bike for my older body vs. the one that raced 30+ years ago. I put disk brakes on just for my hands that cannot hold the brakes tight on steeper hills. Turns out all was okay with them, it was more me not remembering how they sound when they get ‘hot.’
I am strong and getting stronger every day. Celebrating a friends 61st birthday on a nice hill climb was just the outing I needed. Off to yoga to see how stiff or loose the muscles are today!
