I’m up and walking my regular walking route for the first time since last December. It’s early enough in the morning that I miss the traffic, but it’s light enough that I can see where I’m walking. Yes, those cracks in the sidewalk and curbs are invisible in the dark and my feet don’t have eyes at the level yet!

Today my incentive was the weather. It will be raining all day and after walking the entire route in the rain yesterday, I was going to avoid the soaking today. I made it out and back with out any rain, but what I found interesting was how much I missed the walk. So much has changed. The trees are blooming, there are no more Christmas decorations and the air has been thoroughly scrubbed clean. Mmmm deep breath!

The stillness was what was so surprising this morning. The clouds were low and heavy, absorbing all sound. The humid air pressed on my chest, just like it did living in the Midwest. Even the train whistle was muted. No birds were singing. It was the calm before the storm. I’ve really missed this quiet time of the day.

I look forward to getting up early again for my morning walk tomorrow. Amazing how progress can motive you to make more progress.
