This morning my dog, Allister, and I have already had our fill of action.
We had just started our usual morning walk and I noticed flashing lights on a police car on the opposite side of an intersection we were going to cross.
At this point, mind you we are not totally awake, so the colorful flashing lights are very obvious. Our early morning walk is a wonderful way to greet the day because it is slower!
The police car crossed the intersection, lights flashing, and quickly turned into the city hall parking lot right in front of us (at least they used their turn signal), cruised through and exited on the other side. Allister and I were now both on edge with the fast pace of the car traveling through the parking lot. Before I realized it, the police car exited the lot and turned left, retracing its steps, lights still flashing. Behind it there were now two additional police cruisers. They all stopped in the left turn lane at the intersection the first car had just crossed, waiting behind a small brown car. Their lights were still flashing.
As the signal changed all four cars turned left and just slid into the gutter on the other side of the street. The policeman in the first car jumped out and approached the small car. Before Allister and I walked across the same intersection everyone was out of their car talking. We kept walking straight ahead hoping for the quiet morning we both look forward to each day.
My quiet, calm start of the day didn’t begin the way I wanted. Am I cheated? As I sit here writing, I realize, no I wasn’t. I have the ability to view the situation in whatever way I choose. I choose to start now with the quiet music and sun peeking through the clouds.
