I’ve been frustrated the last couple weeks thinking about money. Yes, after working with my thoughts over the last couple years, I still get frustrated, especially about money.
Do you have limiting beliefs about money?
I have lots of beliefs about money, and they are usually limiting me in some fashion. “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “You have to work hard for the money.” “Money doesn’t come easily.” I’m sure you can think of many more, and for me, those are just a couple that I can name off the top of my head.
These limiting beliefs I have around money are always raging in my head. I’ve noticed that when I think about something like an activity or even something as simple as new flip flops for summer, I follow it with a thought of how much it will cost. It happens even when I’m just looking at pictures in a magazine! How silly is that!!
I certainly don’t espouse using money without restraint, but when I recognized my thinking limited me beyond reasonableness, I realized I needed to make a change.
The last couple weeks I have been trying explicitly to manifest money to begin to understand how powerful these limiting beliefs are for me. Money is an area of my life that has always been challenging for me to embrace because money issues are associated with lack or even negative aspects of others like selfishness and untrustworthiness. These beliefs sometimes cross over into other areas of my life, including challenges in relationships, my view of others and more. And they are powerful, but I’m starting to whack away at them.
I’m going to become a Money Magnet
First, I am labeling myself as a ‘money magnet.’ I’m doing this because I want to begin to see myself as someone who attracts money. I even have a visual of myself shaped like a horseshoe magnet to add some levity to a subject that’s usually tied to seriousness. Out here in Silicon Valley, someone told me years ago the ‘suits work for the hoodies,’ indicating the money people (wall street bankers, VCs, etc.) are here to work with the entrepreneurs, and they stand out in their tailored clothing. Yes, seriousness and money.
Second, I am going to every day visualize more money in my bank accounts. A significant amount more! I want to really stretch my thinking and manifest lots of money to demonstrate I can do it. Here is where I plan to play with the joyful feelings of having way more money than I ever thought I could.
Third, I am going to try to stop my limiting beliefs whenever I find myself thinking about what I don’t have that’s associated with money. A car, a vacation, whatever, it doesn’t matter what it is, I want to stop myself from playing my old money tapes that are chock full of those limiting beliefs.
In place of those old tapes, I will play the new tapes I’ve created about the feelings I mentioned in the previous step. Especially the exhilaration of having so much money I don’t know what to do with it.
That’s my assignment for the next six months.
Stay tuned; I’ll let you know how I progress!
