What If You Knew How It Ends?
Beth and I love to watch Golden State Warriors basketball games. While we moved out of the Bay Area, we still enjoy following the games and reading up on the players and coaches.
Since the games are later in the evening, we often record them to watch the next day – after we find out who won.
Even though watching a game knowing the outcome loses some of the drama, it takes away a lot of the anxiousness. If they fall behind by a dozen points, we know somehow it will all work out in the end.
Over the years, I’ve read about people who have had near-death experiences or NDEs. In almost every case, the person who returns from their experience talks about the deep unconditional love they feel. Many of them are not interested in coming back to “life”, but would prefer to stay “dead.” Many of the things that seemed important before their NDE no longer matter.
One especially impactful NDE experience is from Anita Moorjani. The short TEDx talk is wonderful, and her book is even better. She talks about the magic that is available to all of us with nothing to fear in this life or afterward.
If the lessons shared by many people who’ve had near-death experiences are true, then we know how this “life” ends. It’s filled with love, joy, and understanding. And just like watching a basketball game knowing the outcome, we can be free to enjoy all the ups and downs of this life’s experience without all the anxiousness of how it will turn out.
We still get to experience all the challenges of life, but we can do it without the fear we’ve been conditioned to have when we don’t know how it will end.
I encourage everyone to read or listen to a few NDE experiences to learn what people that have gone through an incredible adventure and come back to tell us about it. By doing so, I hope you can go through this life with a little less fear and a lot more love.
