Darkness and Our Light of Hope

by | Oct 26, 2020 | Experiences

They say, no amount of darkness can put out a light. It’s an uplifting and inspirational quote, but how can you apply it to our current situation?

If you look at today’s political climate, it appears there are equal parts of lightness and darkness. It doesn’t matter which side of the political debate you are on, you see your side as the light one and the other as dark.

What will happen when the election is decided? Will you see it as one side winning and the other losing?

Will the darkness snuff out the light? That’s what it will feel like for nearly half of America. Their light will feel like it’s been put out – darkness won.

How can we possibly move forward as a society when each major decision we make turns half of us into losers?

When you have the attitude that if your side loses, your light is extinguished (or at least dimmed substantially), a loss is really hard to take.

Why is that? It’s because of where you focus your attention.

If your side loses, will you focus on the loss? Will you be angry at the winners? Will you direct your thoughts, feelings, and energy toward all the negative things that might happen as a result of the defeat? Will you start to plan how we have to do better next time – and wait, resist, and worry for the next several years?

When you shift your energy from looking at what you want to what you don’t want, YOU are the one putting out the light!

Your focus and attention make the light shine. As soon as you give up hope and shift your energy to fear and worry, you create the darkness.

Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, it is up to you to keep your own light shining!

You can have more of what you want – but only if you choose to focus on it.
